Mauna Kea Beach Hotel’s iconic Copper Bar has been named the recipient of Andrew Harper’s Grand Award for Best Bar in the 2017 Hideaway Report. The bar was recently revitalized during the hotel’s multi-million dollar renovation and the results are not going unnoticed.

Andrew Harper, Editor-In-Chief of Hideaway Report, recognizes particularly memorable hotels and resorts by presenting them with a Grand Award. During his 2016 travels, he returned to Copper Bar at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and described his experience as “one of those truly blissful moments that alone make the flight to Hawaii worthwhile.” Andrew made special note of the bar’s enhanced design and atmosphere, as well as the Mauna Kea Mule cocktail, which is 100% island made with house made ginger beer, Pau Vodka, fresh lime, soda and a dash of bitters; and, naturally, served in a custom copper mug.

A contemporary Design with a sense of Place

An elongated bar and open view planes better accentuate the true centerpiece of Copper Bar—the gorgeous panoramic views of Kaunaoa Bay. Complementing modern furnishings, elements of Copper Bar’s storied past are cleverly incorporated into the contemporary design. For example, guests can still enjoy restored skylights connecting Copper Bar to the lobby level, copper panels from the original bar now repurposed for the new back bar and marine rope refashioned into a new art-like wall feature.

Another nod to the area’s sense of place is a beautiful new mural painted by well-known Hawaii artist Solomon Enos. The stunning kaunaoa that graces the property’s shoreline is represented in Enos’ piece as is its deep cultural significance.

Craft Cocktails and Reimagined Cuisine

Mixologists create hand-crafted artisanal cocktails, and flowing from the Copper tap, a selection of local brews, keg wine and Mauna Kea’s homemade ginger beer, the foundation of Copper Bar’s signature cocktail, the “Mauna Kea Mule.” Hawaii-born Chef de Cuisine Rio Miceli developed the Eurasian Bistro menu concept with the goal of creating a casual atmosphere where family and friends may gather to share inspiring views, food and libations.

Copper Bar is open daily from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. for lunch, dinner and cocktails, with live music and hula nightly between 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. For more information, visit maunakeabeachhotel.com.
